Her Royal Highness's Annual Festive Musical Celebration Spotlights Unsung Heroes

Catherine, Princess of Wales, is presiding over her yearly Yuletide celebration at the historic Abbey, with guests including royals, celebrities and local heroes who have helped their communities.

The 1,600 guests will enjoy a selection of traditional hymns, orchestral pieces, and literary excerpts from actors such as Kate Winslet and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

Centred Around Compassion and Love

The theme of the service, held in the candle-lit Abbey on the afternoon, is kindness and showing love to others.

Among the guests will be Jonathan and Anna Cordiner, whose young girl was lost to a brain tumour, and who established a foundation, a support fund, to aid parents with a youngster facing a life-limiting condition.

"Your efforts, love, and understanding, often discreetly and without words, and without any thought of thanks or praise, make an profound impact to the lives of others," wrote Catherine in a letter ahead of the concert.

A Steady Comeback

The princess has been making her own steady comeback to public life subsequent to her illness and medical care, recently giving her major oration since 2023, in which she talked about recognising the "selfless, commonly overlooked efforts of carers".

Music and Opportunity

Attendees entering the Abbey will enjoy performances from budding artists supported by the Future Talent charity, co-founded by the Duchess of Kent to widen access to musical tuition.

An 18-year-old named Carys Wood, who plays the trumpet and is from Wales, has been helped by the trust, with grants helping towards instruments, tuition, and transportation expenses - and she said it was "incredible" to be performing at tonight's service.

"Music can be very expensive," the musician remarked. She is now enrolled at the prestigious music academy, and added that "everyone should have the opportunity" to hone their artistic talents.

A Family Affair

Eliza, Carys's sister who is 11, who plays the euphonium, will also be at the Abbey. "I never thought I'd be able to play there in front of so many notable figures," she said.

Attending the service will be people from various age groups.

That will encompass nine-year-old Saphia Turner, recipient of a young hero award, who sells artwork and carries out sponsored challenges to raise money for food banks.

Festive Decor and Performances

The Abbey has been festooned with specially made wreaths, with well-known chef Mary Berry and flower expert Simon Lycett helping to make them.

Taking to the stage will be Katie Melua, choristers from Westminster Abbey and a maritime folk band from Cornwall, Fisherman's Friends, who said the invitation to sing was "the perfect culmination."

The festive event titled 'Together at Christmas' will be aired by ITV1 on Christmas Eve.
